Now more than ever has science taken a knife to our most fundamental convictions about reality. Here is a friendly and non-technical place to explore and discuss the mind-bending physical and philosophical implications of what modern science now tells us about our world. The site is primarily devoted to Theoretical Physics (the study of reality), Neuroscience (the study of how we interpret reality), and Philosophy (what it all means).
Why Should I Care?
Agreeably, knowing the deep roots of reality will have no impact on your day-to-day activities. Knowing that our universe may very well be a small part of a larger multiverse will not change the way you drive your car. Knowing that a particle of matter can exist everywhere at once will not make you a better baseball player. But not knowing the reality of your existence just seems like an incomplete way to live life. How much more enriching is it to know that there exists a world outside of your house, and solar system beyond your planet. That beyond the limitations of your eyesight is a microscopic world teeming with life all around you. That you are part of something so completely unimaginably huge and complex and mysterious. A full appreciation for the nature of reality is not going to change the way you live, but it may change how you live. For example, realizing that the Earth revolved around the sun rocked the foundations of religion and called into question our beliefs about the role of humans in the universe. Every human being alive during that era walked down the street with a new perspective on life.
